Because I'm Too Much Of a Geek

So,

Here I am again these always seem to turn out to be an introspective reflection on my day's (or longer) achievements, failures and general remarks..

So let's break these down into little bits....

Work, Personal, Parental - and a special section for [info]microchip

Work,
Well - I had my first 1-to-1, that seems to be the current pseudonym for "Appraisal" flying round the office at the moment, perhaps such wording to make it seem like more of a 2 way dialog, rather than an assessment.

Linguistic particulars aside, it went well - I was effectively offered a pay rise open for review in 3 months, and it seems the company is intending to move to Portland Street, which for anyone interested is in the centre of Manchester, a most prestigious location by all accounts... google map here (hybrid).
Collegues and Management seem tolerable at the very least, and given time I hope these people will be counted amongst my closest friends - after all I will be spending most of my time with them for the next few years.....so all in all, rather glad that they're all good people. (note, none of them read this blog... so I'm no tjust ass kisssing)

Personal,
Hrrrmm, personal - a lot of my personal stuff isnt really fit for the public domain, either because I'd be arrested for thinking it..... or because I just dont feel cofortable posting about it in a public environment - but it's my blog; and I'll cry if i want too.

My own feelings towards personal stuff in blogs not withstanding, I have a new girlfriend - Katie... she'd kill me if i uploaded any pics of her - sufficed to say she's 6 years my senior - and it's a refreshing change - so far i make it less than a month together, but who knows where such engagements lead.... more info when anything interesting happens.

Also, just for </span>[info]positricity

[info]microchip
Dude, you know you you are, and this little paragraph is here to serve as a motivational aide to you, when in doubt, remember these things...
</span>
  1. I am always more right than you, you may be also right, but my answer is more correct than yours owing to my overall superiority... you have no chance to survive make your time
  2. Regardless of how gay something is, it doesn't come close to this.
  3. That, is only slightly more gay than Locutus.. who, devistatingly seems to have lost his place online, R-I-P Locutus of Hungary (lonk|link)
  4. And the rest of this post can be summed up with 2 things... "N a Z i   B A s T aR d?! *do do do dlle dod do do d*" ... and this .wav
This is me signing off, adios...

Hi, if you've stumbled upon this blog, welcome - this is here to signify my embracing of web services - never having been one to buy into these trends about `ohh you have to have a blog` and `flickr is great everyone uses it` - I finally got a blog, opened a del.icio.us account for my favorites and once i find my digital camera, I'll probably open a flickr account.

What's all this in aid of, and why - I ask myself...I've been having some problems with Firefox lately, instability and such like, and needed a lighter browser - so I tried the new Flock browser - it comes with intergrated blogging support, something a nice Firefox plugin supports, but this is nicer, somehow - I couldnt figure out how to get it to work with my own blog, hosted on Typo (Ruby on Rails blogging software). Flock also comes with intergrated del.icio.us support, which is a god send - for my frequent formatting and OS crashes - my bookmarks are one thing I never remember to back up, also - my development buddies and I have been usung a wiki to track our blackbook, and other things we need - little script snippets we find helpful, and things we need to note - so now we can use a shared bookmarks library to manage that, and our blogs to track useful code snippets

Well, this post is more than long enough to test Flock's blogging support - so I'll sign off here, and get on with what I'm supposed to be doing!

Had a busy day with one thing and another today. Spent most of the day learning new bit & bobs about the way eDirectory do things and trying to solve an alignment problem :S (in code that runs on over 617  Merchant sites :S - no pressure!)

Sufficed to say, towards the end of the day... i had maybee... 3 images left to make a little >> type thing, and a few headings for `Recent Products` and the likes....

Anyway.... I finished work, and as I have a tonne to do tomorow; figured I'd finish off the site from here.... No, there's an ASP error in the code, something about Editorial Includes... fair enough I though.. no biggie.

So, tick tock tick tock - in the mean time I was working on the "Static Include Helper"  - More on that when I finish it.

Anyway, Long Story short - I logged in about 40 mins ago to find all my database changes (which cannot be backed up by me) were undone.

Now, to add insult to injury - the CSS for the site is run through a database (we're worknig on alternatives... but that's the way it is at the minute) ... so all my CSS has gone too.

Anyone thinking I shoudl have had it backed up is probably right - but I Couldn't since they make us work through a MIC BackOffice system thing.... so - there it is, a Days work and my Morale - Gone.

Well, Got a tonne of work done on phixelworks.com (see my homepage link wherever it may be)

Got mod_rewrite working, I'm a bit tired to say for definate what I did to make it work, but it works - and that's all that matters.

Looking for suggestions from any readers of this thread/blog to see if you ave ideas/etc for phixelworks/eggbread - i'm trying to make the stylesheet's rule all - which is always a nice habbit.

Anyhow, in other news, I'm about to hit the sack - I think a nice sleeve-less shirt and my black pants and expencive shoes for tomorow's Seminar.  With my black jumper for backup if the sky falls in and the weather isnt blistering tomorow.

Well,

New Job, New Journal - Started with a pioneering company named eDirectroy today (www.edirectory.co.uk).

Tehnically, I started on friday - but we'll forget that cause it wasn't a real day's
work.  The company is great, aside from an ASP based system - can't fault it - then again ASP has it's merits! ( I suppose! )

Something cool though, as the bloke responsible for designs and such like, I more or less get tomorow off to go with the MD (eeek) to a Seminar where 3 famous designers are speaking on design principals and how they affect a user experience and online shopping. So aside from minding my etiquette should all in all be a good day.

Since I imagine more peolpe than myself and my lovely girlfriend will be reading this journal, I'm going to assume that some of you are into your RSS feeds, in which case - you probably like "less than half-price" shopping bits & bobs delivered to your news reader ?   It's a project in conjunction with eDirectory, i'm redesigning it at the moment - i'll post some shots as soon as I find out if i can do it wihout geting sacked!

Sufficed to say the URL is http://www.desktopbargains.co.uk
